A neighborhood in Surf City, North Carolina banded together to stop tourists from using their street as a shortcut. They turned the private road into a tollway.

Residents noticed that thousands of cars were using the neighborhood as a shortcut from Highway 210 to Highway 50, so they voted to create the toll road. The counted 4,100 cars last Memorial Day weekend, even though only 224 people live along the road.

Prior to the weekend a sign was put up announcing the $5 toll for using the road.
