Peeps Have Stopped Production At The Factory
The weird, spongy marshmallows we all buy in bulk the day after Easter may not have as much of a supply this year.
Just Born, the company that makes Peeps, Mike and Ike, and Hot Tamales, has halted production in the wake of COVID-19, according to a release from the company.
In response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, we are temporarily suspending production at our facilities in Bethlehem and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, effective no later than 3/25/20 at 6:30am through at least 4/7/20. Our PEEPS & Company® Store in Center Valley, Pennsylvania closed 3/17/20 and will remain closed through at least 4/7/20. Most of our office associates have been working remotely since 3/18/20 but now all associates will work from home through at least 4/7/20. All associates will continue to be paid throughout this time period. We will take this opportunity to further clean and sanitize our production facilities, offices and corporate headquarters.
There should be enough Peeps in the market to make it to Easter, just don't expect them to have as many when they go 75% off after Easter.
Just Born says their other candies should be okay, but expect out of stocks on certain items.
