Our Best Bites: The Tangled Wood

We're searching the Quad Cities for the best dishes and drinks, and we want to know the stories behind the business too.

This week, we're at The Tangled Wood at 3636 Tanglewood Road in Bettendorf to find out why they're one of Our Best Bites.

A multi-million dollar project with three bars, an 8,000 square-foot outdoor patio space, and even an amphitheater with a 17-foot screen! The Tangled Wood offers a relaxing atmosphere as well as some of the best food in the area.

First up for us at The Tangled Wood was their sharable appetizer, Crab-Rang Dip. It's a Crab Rangoon filling dip with Wonton chips and a sweet chili sauce on the side.

After an appetizer, we were ready for our two entrees.

The Tangled Wood's pizza comes with two crust options; Tangled Wood Signature Crust, or Thin Tavern Style Crust. We tried out the Thin Tavern Style Kitchen Sink pizza, with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion, bell pepper, black olive and mozzarella blend.

The Tangled Wood has become well known in the community for their burgers, especially the Smoke It Up burger. This bad boy has oak-smoked brisket, onion strings, bacon, smoked cheddar, BBQ sauce, lettuce, and pickle, all on a brioche bun.

As far as their three well-stocked bars, they've got everything you could ever want:

• 60 taps of beer options, which you can take home in a 32-ounce Crowler.
• A wide range of cocktails and liquors.
• A place to sit at the bar on the outdoor patio.

One of many signature drinks from The Tangled Wood is the Smoking Bulleit Old Fashion, where they smoke Bulleit Rye 95, and pour it over a mix of orange, cherry, bitters, sugar, and soda water.

Summer Concerts

The Tangled Wood hosts "Rock the Wood" every Friday and Saturday night starting May 1st. From 7pm-10pm, bands from all over the Quad Cities perform a free concert at the outdoor amphitheater.

Just bring a lawn chair and sit on the pet-friendly lawn. Just don't bring any coolers, because they've got plenty of options for drinks.
