Today is Eddie Vedder's 50th birthday.

So one of the top 10 rock vocalists of all time now has an AARP card and is prohibited from jumping into the "pit" or doing any stage diving!

Edward Louis Severson (Vedder is actually his mother's maiden name) was born in Evanston, IL and spent several years there before moving to Southern California.  It shattered him when he learned that his stepfather was not his real father, understandably, and among the songs that came from that anguish was "Alive" one of Pearl Jam's biggest successes.

Thanks for surviving it all, Eddie... and thanks for answering the call to audition up in Seattle that one day.  We all appreciate what Pearl Jam has contributed to our lives and to our Classic Rock playlists!
