New Quarters Have a Bat on the Back
When they said there would be change in 2020, they weren't kidding.
The U.S. Mint has announced a new quarter we will see this year, and will be part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.
On the back quarters of the quarters are a Samoan Fruit Bat, as a shout out to the National Park of American Samoa. The image has a bat hanging upside down with a baby poking it's head out from between mom's wings.
The Fruit Bats are native to the National Park of American Samoa, and are a threatened species due to habitat loss and commercial hunting.
The back of the quarters will feature an inscription of the words "National Park American Samoa 2020" and “E pluribus unum,” which is on the back of every coin, meaning "Out of many, one" in Latin.
