My Nephew…The Carny

Of course the lemon shakeup and Footlong Corndog is a great combo.

I may be biased, but the fried pies are my favorite!  Pies Plus is owned by my nephew, Reid Phillips and for the 2nd year he's staking out his territory at The Carroll County Fair in Milledgeville, Il.

He's only 19 years old but has the work ethic of a grizzled old coal miner. While I don't KNOW any coal miners personally...grizzled or otherwise, I would imagine they'd be ok with being thought of as having good work ethic.  They would certainly approve of the comparison to any of my amazing nephews or nieces!

Anyway, Reid goes to culinary school at Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids. He has a nice side business during the hometown county fair and during holidays when pies are in high demand.  While he's got some great support from his family, it's his tenacity that makes this week, in particular, a prideful one for all of us that get to call him one of us.
