Miami Spring Breakers: “We Came Here For Bars and Beach, They’re Closing All of It”
CBS News went down the boardwalk in Miami Beach to talk with Spring Breakers completely ignoring the COVID-19 situation the best they can. Their responses are somewhat shocking, with the first student saying "If I get Corona, I get Corona. At the end of the day I'm not going to let it stop me from partying."
Another student says "It's really messing up my spring break. What is there to do here other than go to the bars or the beach, and they're closing all of it. I think they're blowing it way out of proportion."
A student donning sunglasses and a backwards hat said "What they're doing is bad, we need a refund."
Two of the CDC's recommendations to keep yourself from contracting COVID-19, as most know, are to not go to large gatherings of people, and stay 6 feet or more away from others. One student said:
I just turned 21 this year so I'm here to party so it's kind of disappointing, but we're making the most of it. We met these other people in our Airbnb spot so we're just hanging out with them and trying to get drunk before everything closes.
The video was posted yesterday, after the first full day of closed dining areas, bars, gyms, movie-theaters and entertainment venues that seat more than eight people. Last night, the common use of mopeds, scooters, and micro-mobility uses are now prohibited.
Groups of more than 10 are banned from gathering. Next to come is the restricting or closing of non-essential retail, private education facilities, casinos and other recreational and entertainment activities.
I have a feeling Spring Break is about to be cut a little bit short.
