A shoplifting report at a Marlborough Target store turned into a much larger case when officers discovered drugs on a man attempting to flee the scene, police said.

Authorities said the incident happened on September 9 at the Target located on Boston Post Road East. Employees reported that two suspects—a man and a woman—left the store with roughly $150 worth of unpaid merchandise before running away on foot.

Police Encounter and Arrest

When officers caught up to 31-year-old Tevin Haywood, he allegedly tried to hide evidence by shoving plastic bags containing a white powder into his mouth. According to police reports, the bags appeared to hold four or five bundles of cocaine and an additional bundle of blue powder suspected to be fentanyl. Officers seized the substances, which weighed about 13.8 grams in total.

Haywood was taken into custody and now faces a series of charges. These include:

  • Shoplifting by asportation (third offense)
  • Conspiracy
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Resisting arrest
  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Possession of a Class A controlled substance
  • Possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance
  • Tampering with evidence

Ongoing Investigation

Police have not yet confirmed whether charges will be filed against the female suspect who was with Haywood at the time of the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
