A California man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to kill his former landlord and then leading police on a short pursuit.

The police in Riverside County, CA were called to a home in response to an assault on an 83 year old victim who had been choked and battered by a former tenant. The man reported the tenant, 27 year old Paul Stephen Otto, broke into the house and attempted to steal a vehicle belonging to to the landlord.

The police report said Otto fled the scene in his own car, but was later spotted outside a police station. When police tried to make contact, the suspect fled by car, initiating a high speed chase, which caused an accident, resulting in Otto's car being totaled.

After being discharged from the hospital, Otto was taken to jail with a bail of $300,000.
