A suspect wanted for violating a protective order had to be taken to the hospital on Saturday night with serious injuries after he attempted to flee officers on horseback.

Lynchburg Police responded just before 8pm Saturday to a report of a wanted person riding a horse.

The officers informed the suspect, 57-year-old Steve Rucker, that there was a warrant for his arrest because he violated a protection order. Steve responded by taking off on the horse into oncoming traffic.

A 14 minute pursuit through town resulted in Rucker falling off of the horse and being hit by an officer as he laid in the street.
