Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh announced to his audience today that he has lung cancer. The famous cigar smoker downplayed his smoking as a cause, and told the listeners that there would be some days he would be missing from his highly rated talk show due to his treatment. Other details he played close to the vest.

Limbaugh has long believed that smokers' taxes offset the personal health risks to the smoker. And questions the validity of second-hand smoke as a cause for health problems. In an article quoted by the NY Daily News, Limbaugh has previously said on his show, “Firsthand smoke takes 50 years to kill people, if it does,” he said. “Not everybody that smokes gets cancer. Now, it’s true that everybody who smokes dies, but so does everyone who eats carrots.”

Limbaugh didn't seek sympathy from his audience, but did say that the cancer was, "Advanced" according to the article.
