Blizzard in the Quad Cities— Here Are the Best Hills to Go Sledding
A winter blizzard has rolled through the Quad Cities, shutting down schools and covering the area in fresh snow. While the roads might be messy, the snow day also means one thing for families and kids across the region: perfect sledding conditions.
If you're looking for somewhere to grab a sled and enjoy the snow, the Quad Cities has several parks and hills that locals head to every time a big storm hits.
Below are some of the best places to go sledding around the area.
The Two Classic Davenport Sledding Hills
Two of the most popular sledding spots in Davenport are Fejervary Park and Duck Creek Park.
These parks have long been favorite winter hangouts for families once the snow piles up. In fact, the hills at these parks are designated sledding areas by the city, meaning they’re considered some of the safest and most accessible places to sled in Davenport.
At Fejervary Park, the hill behind the Putnam Museum offers a wide slope perfect for sleds and tubes. Meanwhile, Duck Creek Park’s hills near the clubhouse are known for their long runs that can send sledders flying across the snow.
If you want a simple, close-to-home sledding adventure in Davenport, these two parks are great places to start.
Bigger Hills Around the Quad Cities
If you’re looking for something a little bigger, several parks around the Quad Cities offer great sledding terrain.
One local favorite is Scott County Park just north of Davenport. The park spans more than 1,200 acres, giving visitors plenty of hills and open areas to explore after a big snowfall.
Other popular sledding spots include:
- Prospect Park in Moline
- Hollyhock Park in LeClaire
- Cork Hill Park in Davenport
Many families also head to neighborhood parks and school hills when the snow is fresh, especially during snow days like today.
