The five key dimensions include affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life, and safety. A small town in the eyes of WalletHub is any town with population sizes between 25,000 and 100,000.

While Indiana may be home to the best small cities in the U.S., Wisconsin has a couple of the best small cities ranking in the top 5.
WalletHub found that Brookfield, WI is the 2nd best small city in the U.S.
The small city in Wisconsin, which made it from the top 20 to the top 5, is Appleton, WI. Appleton is the 5th-best small city in the U.S.:
Does Iowa Or Illinois Have Some Of The Best Small Cities?
Sorting through over 1,300 towns. A lot of small towns in both Iowa and Illinois made this list, but many were at the bottom. Although, one town in Illinois did crack the top 20!
Congrats to Downers Grove, IL on being named the 18th-best small town in the US:
Algonquin, IL made it in the top 35 and then I stopped counting after that. Menomonee and Waukesha, WI both made it in the top 90th percentile on this list. Bettendorf and Ankeny, IA were in the 90th percentile, too.
