Illinois Is One Of The Least Romantic States For Valentine’s Day

We're not all rolling in romance this week.

A study by Hard Rock Bet looked at the most anti-Valentine's Day states in the country. It ranked them based on several metrics:

• Google searches for phrases related to ending relationships ('how to breakup with my partner', 'relationship red flags', etc)
• The number of divorce lawyers
• Percentage of unmarried residents
• Negative social media sentiment

Iowa did fine, not even ranking in the top 15 for anti-Valentine's sentiment. Illinois, on the other hand...

Illinois came in 4th for most anti-Valentine's Day states.

The stats breakdown for Illinois looked like this:

• Monthly relationship-ending Google searches: 13,740
• Number of divorce lawyers: 1,539
• Percentage unmarried: 53.4%
• Negative Valentine's sentiment: 42%
• Total (out of 100): 59.69

Illinois ranks behind California (#1), New York (#2), and Florida (#3). The Midwest overall must be pretty romantic, since the only other 2 Midwest states in the top 15 were Michigan (#10) and Ohio (#11).

Illinois isn't alone in their disdain for Valentine's Day. Another study this year from YouGov found that about 45% of Americans-nearly half-aren't celebrating Valentine's Day this year. Only 52% of Americans who are in a relationship at the moment plan to do anything for Valentine's Day.

The most common ways to celebrate this year? It's the standard: most Americans who will observe it say they either plan to give or receive a gift, and about the same amount say they plan to go out to a nice dinner with their partner.

Let's be serious: we all know the real holiday is right after Valentine's Day, when the candy goes on sale.
