How To Get Sandbags In Davenport, IA

For those in downtown Davenport starting to get worried about the Mississippi River flooding (and you should be), the City of Davenport and the Davenport Public Works Department are continuing to give updates about what businesses and residents need to do to prepare.

In a social media post on Wednesday, the Davenport Public Works Department said in a social media post that the Mississippi River has risen above the 13-foot Action Stage at Lock and Dam 15 in Rock Island. The river is expected to continue to rise over the next couple of weeks.

Private property owners who are at risk of flooding through the Mississippi River Stage 20 feet are now able to get sand and sandbags to prepare for the flooding starting today, Thursday, April 13th.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is forecasting that the peak river flooding will take place between May 1st through May 8th.

There is a greater than 90% chance that the Mississippi River will reach moderate flooding, which is at Stage 16 feet. There is a 25-50% chance around that time we will see the river reach Stage 18-19 feet.
