Eastern Iowa Town Named One Of America’s Best Places For Gen Z To Afford A Home
Good news for the younger crowd.
As a millennial, this study made me chuckle. So much of my generation may always end up renting as we can't afford homes. But now, the attention is on the generation under us, Gen Z.
According to a study by Ohio Real Estate Source, we don't have to go very far to find one of the best cities for Gen Z to buy a house.
Yep, Davenport was named the 9th best place for Gen Z to buy a house.
So this is looking at a 2 or 3-bedroom home. The study found that the average annual income in Davenport amounted to 33.7% of the cost of a house. That stat made Davenport over 50% more affordable than the average American city, where a salary is just 22.4% of the cost of a house.
Illinois also had a city on the list. Peoria ranked #1 in the study, Texas had a few locations in the top 10, as did Ohio. They compared the average salary of people who live in nearly 200 cities to the cost of a 2 or 3-bedroom house to come up with the list.
According to Zillow, the average price of a house in Davenport so far in 2025 is about $170,000. It went up 3.3% within the last year.
The U.S. Census data from 2023 shows that the average annual income in Davenport was (at that time) $64,497.
Meanwhile, these days, houses are pricey so I'll just keep scrolling Zillow and real estate sites critiquing houses I can't afford.
