Eastern Iowa Police Bringing Back Speed Cameras This Week
It was a good break while it lasted, but all good things come to an end.
An Eastern Iowa city will be using its mobile traffic cameras to catch speeders this week. The areas they are putting these mobile traffic cameras make sense and it's for the safety of kids. Luckily, we'll know exactly where they will be placed this week so you can be on the lookout.
Iowa Regulates Speed Cameras
Last year, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed bill HF 2861, which strongly regulated automated traffic enforcement cameras across the state of Iowa.
Only 11 cameras were approved, leaving 128 denied to be a part of the new plan. We've put together a map below so you can see where they are. Each of the cameras must justify that it is not a revenue stream, but a help to public safety.
Below is a map of the cameras that are still active and those that were deactivated.
The City of Davenport has four approved locations to continue operating traffic cameras and 21 locations for mobile traffic cameras. This week, Davenport Police will deploy those cameras in certain spots.

Davenport Police Deploy Mobile Traffic Cameras
The Davenport Police Department has announced that it will resume using mobile Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) cameras.
Last week, the City Council approved an ordinance aligning Davenport's Automated Traffic Enforcement program, including locations and fines, with a new Iowa state law.
Where are these mobile cameras going to be set up? In the places that make the most sense and in the places you've probably seen them the most: School Zones.
This is the schedule of when the mobile ATE cameras will be out this week, February 4 - 7, 2025:
- Monday: Not Deployed
- Tuesday: 1900 Brady Street & 5500 Pine Street
- Wednesday: 2800 Division Street & 2800 Jersey Ridge Road
- Thursday: 4100 Division Street & 4300 Eastern Avenue
- Friday: 3300 West Locust Street & 1000 West 53rd Street
Iowa Set Fine Standards For Traffic Cameras
When the bill was signed into law on Oct. 1st, standards on fines from traffic cameras were also set statewide. Below is the amount you could be facing if caught by a mobile or fixed traffic camera in the state of Iowa:
Speed Over Limit | Civil Fine | If in a Construction Zone |
11 through 20 MPH | $75 | $150 |
21 through 25 MPH | $100 | $200 |
26 through 30 MPH | $200 | $500 |
Over 30 MPH | $500 | $1,000 |
Red Light | $100 | N/A |
Whether there is a mobile traffic camera, a police officer, a fixed traffic camera, or nothing at all, slow down, especially in school zones.
