The blast will be following a second major winter storm that will impact the area Thursday night through Saturday morning. This Arctic air will make the storm stronger and it will bring in frigid temperatures.

The extremely cold temperatures are terrifying but the reason for it should scare you a little more. Experts are thinking we'll get even more Arctic air thrown at us because of the polar vortex.

If you haven't found all of your warm clothes yet, start looking. The temperature in Iowa and in the Quad Cities is going to get really cold, really soon.

Bitter cold air will make its way into central Iowa and throughout the state by Friday and will be sticking around into early next week, according to the National Weather Service of Des Moines.

Locally in the Quad Cities, high temperatures will be in the single digits starting on Sunday and won't get back into the teens by Wednesday, reports the First Alert Forecast Team at KWQC-TV6. We'll struggle to get above 0° on Monday.

With extremely low temperatures and wind between 10-15 mph, wind chills may reach the -30 to -35F degree range early Sunday and Monday mornings.
