Not only is this the birthday of one Forrest "Dickey" Betts (71 today)... but this is the anniversary of the release of The Allman Brothers Band's debut album back in '69.

What I find most significant about the Allman Brothers, was after they released this debut album, they went on the road for about 30 straight months and performed over 500 concerts during that time!  For a rock band, that's absolutely amazing!

I'm a huge fan of Dickey Betts and consider him one of the greats, especially after he taught himself to play "slide" after Duane Allman was killed, and did a remarkable job!   So Allman Brothers fans, and guitar mavens, today I salute you!
