Yesterday, thousands of Quad Citizens met up at the base of the newest span of the I-74 bridge to walk across the bridge and celebrate its opening.

Nearly thirty years in the making, the bridge is set to open fully by the end of December.

The bridge walk gave the opportunity for pictures of the historic moment - a once-in-a-century opportunity when a new bridge is built. A presentation from figureheads of the Quad Cities took place on a stage set up in the middle of the bridge.

As the day drew to a close and night fell, the bridge was illuminated by lights that will nightly light up the arches, and fireworks were launched in celebration.

Here's to this bridge lasting 90 years like the last one.
