Guests at the Embassy Suites in Norman, Oklahoma, received a shocking wake-up call this week when a massive indoor flood triggered a ceiling collapse in the hotel’s dining area.

A Narrow Escape

The incident occurred during the morning breakfast rush. Rachel Burrow, who was staying at the hotel with her family, witnessed the water rushing in through the light fixtures just moments before the structure gave way.

"The lights start to flood down and I'm like oh my gosh I'm like, 'Tony, you need to move, and we all just scatter,'" Burrow told KTUL-TV. "If we wouldn't have moved, we would've been drenched."

No Injuries Reported

Despite the dramatic footage captured by onlookers showing debris falling into the seating area, hotel officials confirmed that no one was hurt. Guests were able to evacuate the immediate vicinity before the ceiling became completely oversaturated and fell.

Cold Weather Suspected

While the hotel has yet to release an official cause, those on-site believe the recent deep freeze played a major role. Freezing temperatures often lead to burst pipes in large commercial buildings.
"I'm sure it was the fire suppression line that was frozen, and I don't know if that had to do with the drinks being frozen up or that area being cold, but it was a little craziness," Burrow added.
The hotel is currently assessing the damage and working to repair the plumbing and structural issues.
