What would you do if you saw a car on the side of the road with a sign that read 'Free Car?' You'd have to assume it's a scam, or the car is being ditched after committing a crime, right? It's evident that not everyone has that line of thinking.

Two guys in Byram, Mississippi found a car that had a sign reading 'Free Car' on it, with the key placed conveniently inside. The car started up, so they drove it to their family member's in Copiah County to check it out.

As they looked through the car, they opened the trunk to see if there was anything good in there, but they found something really bad instead.

34-year-old Anthony Mccrillis' body was in the trunk, unclothed and with evidence that it'd been there for days.

“He was identified through his tattoos and confirmed through his immediate family of his identity,” Byram Police Chief David Errington said.

Errington said the victim's vehicle was last seen in Byram and Jackson the last couple of days, but it's not clear where the crime took place.

An officer said he had spotted the car near Starz Auto Sales on Saturday, but by Sunday, it was gone.

Starz Auto Sales owner Dan Peacock said he passed by the car a few times on Saturday, and figured someone was on their way to sell a car to him when the car died. By Sunday, it was gone.

"Never stopped and looked or anything, but I knew it was kind of unusual,” Peacock told WLBT. “I figured somebody was driving down here to sell it. We buy a bunch of cars. I figured somebody was driving down to sell it, and it quit on them or something. Just never dawned on me that something like that went on.”

Mccrillis' body had no obvious signs of trauma, so the next step is to process the vehicle and determine a cause of death.
