I don’t know what it is about old people, but they always seem to make me laugh! Maybe it’s the fact that they’re getting up there in age and haven’t yet lost some of their childlike qualities, or maybe it’s the fact that we all probably feel like we should be more mature than we really are. Whatever the reason, there are some hilariously funny grumpy old people out there.

Reasons Grumpy Old People Are Funny

Here's a theory: Maybe they're not really grumpy. They're just trying to get a point across, and no one's listening. In our youth-obsessed culture, it's easy for us to see an older person’s grumpiness as strictly a personality flaw.

It can be hard to empathize with other people’s frustrations, especially when they seem minor compared with our own. Maybe you’re feeling impatient as you sit in traffic for an hour, or maybe you think your boss should give you a raise for all your hard work—or maybe someone just made a joke that seemed a little off-color.

Grumpy Old People make us laugh because they mock what we fear in ourselves and what we hope never happens in ourselves. These men and women are so relatable, so recognizable. We’ve all known someone who complains about everything or someone who worries more than is necessary. Perhaps these images remind us of an uncle, a grandfather, an ex-spouse, or even of our current self.
