Government Bridge Closed Saturday, New Traffic Pattern On I-74
Those who plan to use the Government Bridge on Saturday will need to find a new way to the Rock Island Arsenal or Rock Island. The Government Bridge will be closed for the majority of the day on Saturday.
The Rock Island Arsenal announced on social media that on Saturday, October 16th, the Government Bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The Government Bridge will be closed starting at 6 a.m. and reopen to both forms of traffic at 6 p.m. the same day.
Officials say that the Government Bridge is being closed on Saturday for bridge washing and sealing. There will be appropriate signage that will be used to notify and direct traffic on Saturday during the washing and sealing.
In other Quad Cities traffic news, there will be a new traffic pattern on eastbound I-74 in Bettendorf.
According to the I-74 River Bridge officials, beginning tonight (Thursday, October 14), weather permitting, crews will install a new traffic pattern on Illinois-bound (eastbound) I-74 in Bettendorf near the last exit in Iowa (Exit 4).
Traffic will be shifted to completed lanes near the last exit in Iowa. The off-ramp to Kimberly Road/Grant Street will remain open for vehicles to exit. Photos of the traffic pattern shift can be seen below.
Officials also note that in early November, they plan to open the new off-ramp to Grant Street in Bettendorf. The new Grant Street ramp will replace the old ramp at Kimberly Road.
The Iowa and Illinois Departments of Transportation and I-74 River Bridge officials remind you to drive with caution and watch for changing traffic patterns.
