Second Violent Incident at Burnaby Golf Course

Burnaby police were called to address a violent altercation at a golf course for the second time in four months.

On October 12, Burnaby RCMP responded to an incident at Burnaby Mountain Golf Course just before 12:30 p.m. Cpl. Mike Kalanj stated that officers arrived to find a 43-year-old man, believed to be intoxicated, still at the scene. He was arrested without resistance.

How Did The Fight Start

The confrontation began with a verbal disagreement between the suspect and three men, which quickly turned physical when the suspect allegedly struck them with a golf club. The victims suffered only minor injuries.

The man now faces possible charges of assault with a weapon and has been released pending an upcoming court appearance.

"This is the second time since June that Burnaby officers have responded to a fight at a golf course," Kalanj said. "Physical altercations at recreational venues like this are unacceptable. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt."

The Altercation Was Caught On Video

A portion of the incident was captured on video and shared online, showing two men arguing near a tee box. In the footage, one man swings a driver at the other, breaking the club and knocking the victim to the ground.

What Was The First Altercation 4 Months Ago?

In June, officers had to intervene in a separate brawl at Riverway Golf Course, where video footage showed multiple individuals punching, kicking, and grappling.

The Burnaby RCMP is urging golfers to resolve disputes peacefully and reminds the public that violence has no place on the course or in any recreational setting.
