Genesis Closes West Davenport Emergency Room Today
Genesis Medical Center's West Campus will no longer serve the area with an emergency department.
For decades, the hospital has served the west half of Davenport, but as the Genesis East campus has expanded in recent years, the West Campus has shifted its focus. The remainder of the campus will remain open.
Genesis Health System announced the closing of the West Campus Emergency Department in September, saying it's part of their overall plan to optimize their ability to serve all of Scott County.
For now, all patients visiting needing emergent care will have to visit Genesis East's emergency department.
During the expansion of the Genesis Bettendorf Healthplex, a new emergency department will be created to serve the community. It will be a nine-bed facility with a trauma room, triage room, and ambulance bay.
This location opens at noon on December 8th.
"We looked at what's the best care for the community. Having two emergency rooms less than two miles apart, and one that has a full capability, clinically, and one that doesn't have that full capability because of just the resources available. It didn't make sense, it wasn't the right thing for the community," Dr. Kurt Anderson, Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Medical Officer of Genesis Health System told WQAD in September.
But, for now, Genesis East is now the only emergency department in Davenport. Keep in mind, if you do need to be seen, you do have the option of convenient care, which Davenport has two locations:
- 1520 W. 53rd Street
- 3200 W. Kimberly Road
Genesis West will still be offering inpatient behavioral health, inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation, the Genesis Cancer Center, and outpatient services.
