Jimmy Carter, who served as the country's 39th president, has passed away at the age of 100, as announced by his son, Jimmy Carter III.

Just a few months ago, his grandson, Jason Carter, spoke at the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum and shared news that Jimmy Carter was nearing the end of his life.

"He has been in hospice, as you know, for almost a year and a half now, and he really is, I think, coming to the end, that, as I've said before, there's a part of this faith journey that is so important to him, and there's a part of that faith journey that you only can live at the very end, and I think he has been there in that space," Jason Carter said.

"I said, 'Pa Pa, you know I can't -- people ask me how you're doing and I say, I don't know. And he said, 'Well, I don't know myself.' And so he's still there,'" Jason Carter recounted, laughing.

Jimmy Carter entered hospice in February of 2023, just months before his beloved wife, Rosalynn passed away in November.

Jimmy and Rosalyn were highly regarded for their humanitarian aid after his time as president, becoming a key figure for Habitat For Humanity, and his work to help hurricane relief efforts.

You may remember the viral photo of him working on rebuilding a home at 95 years old, after taking a small fall - but he didn't let it get to him at all.

Jimmy Carter was 100.
