It's not unusual for debris to hit your windshield while you're driving. From grocery bags, to rocks, to birds, you never know what you're going to get when you get in the car.

A 71-year-old woman driving with her daughter on Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach was shocked when suddenly a turtle smashed through the windshield and struck her in the head.

The daughter pulled over and got help from another motorist, because her head had a large gash in it.

In the background of a 911 recording, a man points out the offending item that crashed through the windshield.

“There is a turtle in there,” the man can be overheard saying.

“A turtle!” the daughter exclaimed. “An actual turtle?”

The gash drew a lot of blood, but the woman wasn't seriously hurt. Officers believe the turtle was crossing the road when it was kicked by a vehicle ahead of the victim and her daughter.

“I swear to God this lady has the worst luck of anything,” the daughter told the 911 operator as she tended to her injured mother, according to AP.

The turtle was uninjured, of course. Its shell had a few scratches, but was safely released back into the nearby woods, Port Orange officers said.

A similar story happened in May of 2016, when a woman driving on I-4 had a turtle crash through her windshield and land on the dashboard.
