Today is a big deal for many high school kids, as they participate (or not) in a planned walk out during their school day. The reasons these kids are participating are many, but it's important to listen to them. Not just their words, but their actions.

I spent a lot of time in my high school years confused, anxious, and orbiting between success and failure on a daily basis. Just like most of my friends. And just like your high schooler today.

So if your kid is walking out today, I would ask them why. And ask them how it felt. And listen to what they're saying. If they are challenged, they will exceed all your expectations.

So challenge them to put into words the stresses and successes they are experiencing. I think you'll be amazed at the thoughtfulness of the generation we are raising.
