A British Columbia couple has survived for 29 years on a private island they built themselves from recycled material.

Catherine King and Wayne Adams "Freedom Cove" was hand built using recycled and salvaged materials.

A 25 minute boat ride to the nearest town, Wayne says "The only option to get here is by water. There are no road accesses. The water is our highway."

The structure is the size of two city lots, and weighs close to 1 million pounds, floating freely off the coast of Vancouver Island. It has its own waste management system, garden, and even a way for Wayne to fish from the couch.
