California Bat Boy Grabs Interrupting Drone Out Of Sky During Pro Game
During Monday night’s game at Sutter Health Park, the action wasn’t just on the field—it was in the air. A rogue drone interrupted play during the seventh inning of the Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago Cubs matchup, and while most people stared at it in confusion, bat boy Stewart Thalblum channeled his inner action hero.
Instead of waiting for security to figure it out, Thalblum, a six-year veteran bat boy, simply reached up, snatched the flying drone out of the air, and proceeded to tap its propellers with his bat.

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell had a front-row seat to the spectacle. “I guess that’s just life in 2025,” he joked. “It looked like the drone was trying to fly away… or take Stewart with it.”
Thankfully, Thalblum remained grounded, handing off the now-defeated drone to a security guard like a man delivering a foul ball to a lucky fan.
A Proud Dad Moment (For More Than Just Drone Defense)
Stewart’s father, longtime A’s visiting clubhouse manager Mikey Thalblum, wasn’t shocked at his son’s quick thinking. “I’m proud of him for a lot of reasons—more so than just taking down a drone. He’s a good kid.”
While the mystery of the drone’s origin remains, one thing is certain: if it ever returns, it better come prepared for another showdown with baseball’s most fearless bat boy.
