Bear Breaks Into Home While Teen Sleeps

According to police, a black bear broke into a Simsbury home this week, startling a 17-year-old girl who was napping at the time. The teen reportedly woke up to noises inside the house and quickly realized a bear was rummaging around. Thinking fast, she hid in a closet and called 911 while the animal continued to explore the home.

Authorities believe the bear either entered through an open door or pushed out a window air conditioner to get inside. Police were able to scare the animal away before anyone was harmed.

Officials Urge Caution During Bear Season

Wildlife officials say this time of year brings more bear activity, as the animals are preparing for hibernation and searching for extra food. They’re advising residents to secure trash cans, remove bird feeders, and keep doors and windows closed to prevent unwanted visits.

While this bear encounter ended safely, officials stress that anyone who spots a bear should keep their distance and call authorities rather than attempting to scare it off themselves.
