Authorities Arrest Fugitive Who Mocked Police on Facebook
A Pittsburgh man accused of taunting authorities while on the run from them for 45 days was arrested late Monday morning, the Allegheny County Sheriff, Kevin M. Kraus, said.
The Sheriff said 24-year-old Kwaun Elliot was deemed an active fugitive on March 14th after authorities reported that he climbed out of a fourth-floor fire escape window at Renewal Center 1 on Pittsburgh’s Boulevard of the Allies.
Renewal Inc, which operates the center, is a Pittsburgh-based community corrections organization.
While missing from the corrections organization, police say Elliot used a Facebook page that was under a fake name to taunt authorities about not being able to find and catch him.
Elliot also had active warrants for probation violations on cases involving firearms charges.
According to Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus, detectives with the Sheriff's Office discovered early Monday that Elliot was staying at a Marriott hotel in Uptown. Detectives showed up at the hotel just before noon on Monday and arrested Elliot without incident.
Elliot is being held in Allegheny County Jail on $5,000 bond, awaiting a nonjury trial on firearms charges.
