Matthew Emanuel and his wife were having some landscaping done to their yard when the crew uncovered a large metal box that turned out to be a stolen safe.

They thought the box had something to do with electricity, but soon discovered it had a dial on one side. Using a pickax, the crew was able to jimmy the safe open.

Inside were plastic baggies filled with cash, gold, and diamonds. About $16,300 of the cash was salvageable, the rest was damaged by water that had leaked in.

A slip of paper with the valuables indicated that the treasure trove belonged to a neighbor. The safe had apparently been stolen in a burglary back in December of 2011.
