Happy Birthday Pearl …

Today is Janis Joplin's birthday. Had she not died a tragic death at 27, she would have been 72 today.  If you ask ANY female rock vocalist that was born before 1980, and they ALL say that one of their biggest influences, etc.  was Janis Joplin.  A unique voice, an amazing stage presence, a chip on her shoulder, and one of the first women to sport tattoos. Janis was the one that everybody imitated.

Hard to imagine, but all through high school and when she attended college, she was made fun of and bullied, it's too bad she couldn't have had MORE years to laugh back.

She died of a heroin overdose at age 27, about two weeks after Jimi Hendrix died at age 27.  Well, when you're listing rock's greatest tragedies, it's undeniable that Janis Joplin's death ranks way up there.  Today as I salute you Janis fans, you'll hear one of MY favorites on the 5:00 Punch-Out ...
