New Child Toy Recalled Due To Fire Hazard In Mississippi
On April 11, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning about the Yoto Mini speaker, designed for children, due to potential burn and fire risks. The voluntary recall comes as a result of concerns surrounding its lithium-ion battery, which has been found to overheat and pose a fire hazard.
What To Do If You Purchased The Yoto Mini Speaker
Parents are advised to remove the Yoto Mini from their children’s reach immediately but recalled units do not need to be discarded.
Yoto, the manufacturer, has offered a solution by providing a free Yoto Mini Smart Cable to owners. This cable, when used for charging, ensures the battery remains within safe operating limits, mitigating the risk of overheating.

Owners of the Yoto Mini are instructed to cut the provided charging cable in half and submit a photo of it, along with their email and the Yoto Mini's serial number, found on the base of the speaker, via the Yoto website. Once verified, consumers will receive the free smart cable.

Yoto Issues A Statement
"We apologize for the inconvenience and concern this issue may cause our customers and would like to reassure them the safety of our products is our absolute priority," stated Yoto in a released statement.
Additionally, Yoto has enacted an automatic software update across all Yoto Mini speakers to enhance battery management.
No injuries related to the Yoto Mini have been reported. However, the CPSC received seven reports, primarily from the US, detailing instances of the speaker overheating or melting.
Identifying The Recalled Item
The recall affects approximately 251,165 units in the United States and around 18,932 in Canada. The Yoto Mini speaker was available for purchase online at various retailers including us.yotoplay.com, maisonette.com, Amazon.com, and Target.com, as well as in toy and gift stores nationwide from November 2021 to April 2024.
Recalled units can be identified by the SKU PRPLXX00860 located on the base of the product. Parents and guardians are encouraged to act promptly to ensure the safety of their children.
