Police in West Vancouver say a "joyride" from a 13-year-old caused a single-vehicle accident that resulted in a complete write-off by the owner's insurance company.

In a press release sent out Wednesday, police say they were called to a report of a crash last week and found a Lamborghini Huracan badly damaged in a ditch.

Nobody was present at the scene, so officers began a search inside to ensure nobody was inside injured.

Police say that with the cooperation of the vehicle's owner, they were able to determine that a 13-year-old had been behind the wheel, who admitted to taking a friend along for a ride.

The kid also admitted to being unable to control the car in the dark and rainy conditions that were present at the time.

Police say the teen has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with speeding, driving without due care, failing to remain at the scene of a crash and driving without a license.
