I'm not the smartest person in the world, and I'm sure studies have been done on this very phenomena, but I was prepared for the idea of 'Bowling Night' to be much better than the reality.  The opposite was true.  The bowling takes second place to the hanging out aspect, and that I wasn't prepared for.

I've been someone who has always competed in some way just for the exercise if nothing else.  From high school gymnastics and tennis through softball and flag football leagues as an adult, the idea of having that one thing to reset your psyche was always important to me, even if I didn't understand why at the time.

So I agreed to a Bowling night, and had Polaroid images of my dad in the 70's coming home from work, and eating dinner in his bowling shirt so he could skee-dattle right after dinner.  While some of that imagery still holds true, it's mostly just a great face-to-face communication in a world where that seldom occurs.  Introductions are made, contacts and networking simmer, and somewhere in the middle of the beer and pizza a bowling game takes place.  I recommend it for anyone looking for a laid-back version of social media.  without the media.  What a breath of fresh air.  And who would've thought it came from the Bowling Alley?
