The Beatles On Time

Back on this date in 1967, The Beatles were on the cover of Time Magazine.  Back in 1967, that really meant something.  Today ... not so much.  For example.. Barack Obama has been on the cover of Time more than 20 times in the last 5 years or so...

But in 1967, after the release of Sgt. Peppers, "Time" thought it was about time.  They could've jumped on it a year earlier when John Lennon made his famous "Jesus Christ" statement .. but they didn't.  No, they dragged their feet.  And when they did finally admit that they needed to put The Beatles on the cover, it was a "caricature" that was as insulting as it was hideous.  Wouldn't it have been great if The Fab Four would have just said "thanks, but no thanks"?   Imagine the outrage...
