An officer with the Police Department in Madera, California attempted to stop an SUV early Sunday morning while a civilian rode along. When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit began and quickly went dangerous.

A passenger in the SUV pointed a gun out of the front window and fired nine rounds at the squad car. As the chase continued the passenger again fired at the officer's car hitting it with three rounds and just narrowly missing the passenger.

The police vehicle was disabled and the officer had to terminate the chase. The SUV was found abandoned a few blocks away from where it was last spotted in the chase, inside was a pistol and other evidence.

The officer was unharmed and the civilian suffered only minor scratches from broken glass. It's also worth noting that the officer had only recently been released from training and was on his second week as a solo officer.
