‘Louie Louie’ Singer Dies at 71

Jack Ely, the Kingsmen singer of the the song 'Louie, Louie' passed away today in his home after a long illness.  Here's a link to the story of the song, his leaving the band, and a clip of the song from BBC reports.

While the song is a cornerstone block for the world of rock and roll, the band never made the Hall Of Fame, residing in the one-hit wonder status.  When I worked in Peoria, the radio station held a "Louie, Louie for Leukemia" parade where groups would play the song on kazoo, following the band through the downtown.  Fun times. Sad day.
