Boys on the Grosse Ile High School lacrosse team are being investigated for killing a guinea pig before a game and painting themselves with its blood.

Allegations made Monday say that the team performed the sacrifice as a form of "team bonding" before their home game last week. All future games have been suspended while the police investigate 10 of the 18 team members.

Superintendent Joanne Lelekatch released this statement:

"In cases involving these circumstances, our first priority is to ensure that law enforcement has access to the information it needs to conduct its investigation...Once law enforcement has completed its investigation, we will be in a position to assess the facts and circumstances and, if necessary, apply our student or athletic handbooks."
