Creativity only goes so far.

All of us hate trying to change- and especially remember- our passwords. If I forget a password for something and try to reset it, sure enough, it pops up 'new password cannot be old password'.

And if you have to change your passwords often for work, you run out of creative, personal ideas that you think you can remember really fast.

We can give you ideas on what passwords not to go with. NordPass released a list of the most common passwords that are used and how long it takes hackers to crack them. Which for most of them is less than 1 second (the longest one on the list takes 3 hours).

As has been backed up by experts, if you live in Iowa, avoid words like 'hawkeye' or 'cyclone' (or probably even 'corn') in your passwords. They're guessable for hackers, and if they are able to see where your computer is based, they can crack it. You shouldn't use your kids' names either, as that's personal information and really could be guessed with a quick check of social media.

It's hard to make passwords that are memorable for you but not guessable for hackers. But it helps to have a list of what not to do. You may think that it's common knowledge now to get so creative with passwords that the surface-level ones are safe.

Oh no, my dear. That's simply not so.
