Meet The Iowa Native Who Is On This Season Of "Survivor"

A man from an hour outside of Davenport is one of the competitors on this season of "Survivor".

Cody Assenmacher is a 35-year-old who grew up in Preston, Iowa but now lives in Honolulu, Hawaii. He works in elevator sales and just made his debut on the new season of the show as one of the 18 contestants on the island. His parents hosted a watch party at The Downtown Pub for the season premiere, according to WHBF.

As self-professed adrenaline junkie Cody put it: "The Aloha spirit is just like being Iowa nice."

This is the show's 43rd season, which is incredible and makes it a show a lot of us watched as kids. "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" were often on my family's TV.

You know how the show works: the castaways on the show are on the islands of Fiji and there are alliances that are formed (and broken) as they adapt to life on the island and face physical and mental challenges within their three "tribes" of six. Though the seasons and competitors change, it's always the same goal: outwit, outplay, outlast.

Cody is in the VESI Tribe (red is their color) and Tribal Council did not vote him off of the island so he's made it through at least the first week. It's $1 million on the line for whoever can come out on top.
