Iconic Burger Chain With Multiple Illinois Locations Closing 70 Restaurants
2025 seems like it's the year a lot of chain restaurants and stores are going away.
Who among us doesn't love a good fast-food burger from time to time? The greasy goodness, the crispy fries. However, if you love bottomless fries, you may need to find another spot to get one.
According to USA Today, Red Robin is looking at shuttering 70 locations across the country.
And the locations they don't close will feature a bit of a menu revamp.
Red Robin started as a tavern in Seattle in the 1940's before it grew to the national burger chain we all know now.
But now, Red Robin may close underperforming stores as part of an effort to repay debt. Some locations would be closed when their leases expire.
As of now, Red Robin hasn't announced the stores they're planning on closing. They certainly have a presence in the Land of Lincoln, as the burger chain has 17 locations in Illinois:
- Algonquin: 441 S Randall Rd
- Champaign: 2010 N. Neil St
- East Peoria: 314 W Washington St
- Edwardsville: 6699 Edwardsville Crossing Dr
- Fairview Heights: 6500 N Illinois
- Gurnee: 6420 Grand Ave
- Hoffman Estates: 2742 Sutton Rd
- Norridge: 4230 N Harlem Ave
- Orland Park: 15503 South LaGrange Rd
- Oswego: 2860 US-34
- Plainfield: 12646 South Route 59
- Rockford: 7029 E State St
- Schaumburg: J120 Woodfield Mall
- Skokie: 7050 Carpenter Rd
- South Elgin: 420 Randall Rd
- Springfield: 2881 South Veterans Pkwy
- Warrenville: 28260 Diehl Rd
Red Robin hasn't announced yet if they will close any of the Illinois stores, but if any are underperforming, they might. The chain did say 2024 didn't go all too well for them as a whole, losing $54.5 million in total revenue when compared to 2023.
Meanwhile, the remaining Red Robin locations that will stay open are planning to bring in new menu items and "craveable food", new salad options, and promotions to hopefully get customers back to their locations in 2025.
