Art overall is lovely, but you gotta pause every now and then for some masterpieces.

The Figge Art Museum has announced they will be getting some "major loans" of pieces that will be on display at the Figge.

It's part of the National Gallery of Art’s “Across the Nation” Lending Initiative that takes these masterpieces through museums across the U.S. as part of America's 250th birthday.

The exhibition is called "The Golden Age: Featuring Northern European Artworks from the Collection of the National Gallery of Art" and will be on display at the Figge from June 28th-April 4, 2027.

It features 10 works of art. The loaned pieces date from 1537 to 1700 and feature the artwork of Lucas Cranach the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, Frans Hals, and Louis Vallée. They are pieces normally only seen in cities like New York, Chicago, and D.C.

The Figge's own Northern European art will be paired with the National Gallery's pieces in 4 concept areas:

  • Portraiture
  • History
  • Still Life
  • Genre

The National Gallery of Art's traveling initiative will also take the art to Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Utah, and Washington.

Figge Art Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursdays; and 12-5 p.m. on Sundays. You can make reservations but you don't have to. Admission is s $14 for adults, $10 for seniors and students with ID and $8 children ages 4- 12 but everyone can get in for free on Thursday nights.

The Figge often has events going on too. You can keep track of exhibitions and events on the Figge's website.
