Collision in Clearwater Sam’s Club Parking Lot
According to investigators, Carolyn Siegrist was behind the wheel of her Buick Envision when she collided with Laverne Hampton’s mobility scooter. The impact reportedly threw Hampton from her scooter, causing injuries that required hospitalization.
No Help Given After Crash
Instead of stopping to check on the injured woman or exchanging information, Siegrist allegedly fled the scene, according to the police report.
Emergency responders arrived to assist Hampton, who was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not released specific details about the extent of her injuries. Clearwater police located and arrested Siegrist about four hours after the crash. She now faces a felony charge for leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury.

Prior Driving Incident on Record
This isn’t Siegrist’s first encounter with traffic violations. In 2023, she pleaded guilty to careless driving after being involved in another crash and was fined $166.
Siegrist, who has lived about four miles from the crash site in a Clearwater condominium she purchased with her husband in 1987, is scheduled for an initial court appearance. Her previous driving history and the serious nature of this new charge could impact her legal outcome moving forward.
