The Monday Night Football game last night at Met-Life Stadium had all the electricity and pageantry due a contest like the Giants /Colts deserve.  So why try and add it where it's not needed?  The national anthem, performed beautifully on the trumpet, was marred by the lack of an American Flag.  Oh, they had stars and stripes on the field in the form of a giant cut-out of the U.S.  But a quick check of the flag code would tell any art-director or game-night operations manager that what they had on the field was definitely NOT a flag.

I get the concept...bigger, better, red-white-and-BLUER...but sometimes a simple show of respect is all that is required.  The flag needs no embellishment.  The anthem needs no extra notes or flash.  As an audience we should expect more, by demanding less.
