Delaware brought back their Punkin Chunkin this weekend after an accident and lawsuit had put the event on a two-year-long hiatus. Its return was marred by an explosion that injured spectators.

Ten air cannons had already fired off pumpkins more than 3,000 feet when an air cannon called "Punkin Reaper" malfunctioned. The trap door of the cannon flew off and sent pieces of debris in all directions.

A 39-year-old woman was struck in the head and laid motionless as emergency responders aided her. She was taken to a nearby hospital and then air-lifted to another center. She remains in critical condition.

A 56-year-old man was also injured and received treatment for his injuries. Event organizers asked people to clear out after the incident.
