Elderly German Woman Fills In Crossword Puzzle Art at Museum
If you're an avant-garde artist that created a piece of art that looks like a crossword puzzle, in the back of your mind you probably expected something like this would happen.
A 91-year-old German woman was questioned by police after she attended a senior citizens tour at Neues Museum in Nuremberg, Germany. She had seen a work titled "Reading-work-piece" that featured the phrase "insert words" and took that to be instructions.
The woman used a ballpoint pen to start filling in the puzzle. The piece from 1965 is worth an estimated $89,000 and any damage done can be undone.
Museum Director Eva Kraus said, "We do realize that the old lady didn't mean any harm. Nevertheless, as a state museum couldn't avoid making a criminal complaint. Also for insurance reasons we had to report the incident to the police."
